10 offline meetings

Learning, like knowledge, requires constant progress; otherwise, it regresses. In 2024, our organization's members maintained their enthusiasm for learning and exchange, actively participating in various conferences. This year, we participated in 10 offline conferences, covering several important areas including rare diseases, pediatrics, reproductive genetics, and patient organization development. Through these valuable conference opportunities, we were able to stay at the forefront of industry development and keep abreast of the latest research progress and developments in the field of rare diseases both domestically and internationally.

What is particularly valuable is that through these activities, we met many professional doctors, scholars, and other patient organizations. We all shared a common goal: to advance rare disease research and patient services. These in-depth exchanges and collaborations not only greatly enhanced the professional capabilities of our team members but also significantly strengthened the overall capacity building of our organization, playing an irreplaceable and vital role in promoting the in-depth development of our patient services.

2 team capacity building workshops
All members reached a consensus on the organization's common goals, clarified the direction of the organization's work, and made providing more targeted services to FH patients the premise of all our work. From June 27th to 28th, 2024, the two-day Hongmili [Phase 1] Team Capacity Building Workshop was held in Xi'an. In addition to Hongmili members, professional public welfare worker—Teacher Rabbit—was specially invited to participate, along with FH patients and their families. Participants engaged in a lively discussion ranging from Hongmili itself to its dissemination and how to carry out patient services, and reached a consensus on key projects to be implemented within six months!

From August 19 to 27, 2024, all members of the Hongmili FH Patient Organization and First Aid Training Business conducted their second workshop in Xi'an, where they had in-depth discussions on Hongmili's work goals for the second half of 2024.

Compared to the first workshop, this one involved only internal members, and the discussion topics were more comprehensive and focused. In-depth communication took place, covering everything from the overall goals of the Red Rice Grain project to individual work priorities, and from overall project management to detailed implementation. Everyone reached a consensus on the urgency and necessity of patient involvement in dissemination, and joined hands to move towards a common goal!

2 promotional days
The last day of February each year is International Rare Disease Day, and February 29, 2024, will be the 17th International Rare Disease Day. With the generous support of the Koud Rare Disease Center and the Pain Challenge Foundation, we invited five international schools to participate in a joint awareness week, displaying promotional videos for Rare Disease Day and exhibiting posters featuring portraits of rare disease patients in appropriate areas of their campuses. This event showcased 79 photos of rare disease patients, along with information about their respective diseases and their stories. Through this activity, we hope that children and teachers can understand the diversity of life, appreciate the extraordinary nature of rare diseases, and experience respect, equality, and diversity; understand and respect others, and cherish their own bodies.

September 24th is FH Awareness Day. This year marks the third consecutive year that the Hongmili FH Patient Organization has organized public awareness activities on the eve of FH Awareness Day. The Hongmili FH Patient Organization conducted FH awareness education through pictures and text on multiple platforms, including WeChat Official Account, Video Account, Xiaohongshu, and Zhihu. Among them, four official WeChat accounts—BGI Genomics' WeChat Official Account—BGI Medical, the Reproductive Genetics Department of the Reproductive Medicine Center of Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital (Tongji University Affiliated Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital)—Yifanying Reproductive Genetics, Rare Disease Organization Development Network, and Doctor Mom CLUB—reprinted our awareness day article and jointly promoted it.

In 2025, we will also carry out popular science publicity activities on more relevant awareness days, such as March 24th - Lipoprotein (a) Awareness Day and May 4th - Homozygous Awareness Day, to let more people understand FH, promote early diagnosis and early intervention of FH, and help more FH patients stay away from cardiovascular diseases.

2 patient stories

The power of patient stories is immeasurable. They not only embody an individual's courage and perseverance in fighting the disease, but also contain a love for life and hope. We hope to spread awareness of FH through real patient stories, and we also hope that more FH patients will be willing to actively share their stories.

To date, we have published two genuine submissions from patients on our WeChat official account, which have received widespread readership and positive sharing. We will continue to collect patient stories and sincerely invite more FH patients to join us and bravely share their stories. Your participation will not only inspire other patients experiencing similar challenges but also help more people understand FH and improve social awareness of the condition.

4600+ followers, 2 million+ views

To promote public awareness of fibrocystic hepatitis (FH) and expand its reach, we have established accounts on multiple self-media platforms, including WeChat, Xiaohongshu, and Zhihu, to publish FH-related content, identify potential FH patients, and provide them with assistance. As of December 31, 2024, the Hongmili WeChat official account, as our primary platform, has published 332 articles, garnered 2,006 followers, and achieved over 65,000 reads. Our total number of followers across all platforms is over 4,600, with a cumulative readership of over 2 million.

In the future, we will continue to produce high-quality content and further expand our influence through our KOP account. By continuously publishing authoritative and practical information, we hope to provide guidance and support to more potential FH patients and their family members.

2 patient support events

On August 3, 2024, the first consultation meeting for patients with familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) was held as scheduled at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University. This consultation meeting was initiated by the team of Dr. Wu Yue, Director of the Department of Cardiology, and assisted by the Hongmili FH Patient Organization. A total of 11 FH families were invited to participate, with 21 patients and their families from Fujian, Sichuan, Hebei, and Shaanxi provinces. That morning, in addition to providing free medical checkups for patients, colleagues from the Hongmili First Aid Training Team also provided on-site guidance and training to FH patients on how to perform correct and high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) so that they could provide emergency care in case of an emergency.

6 collaborating experts

Currently, there is a relative shortage of doctors in China with specialized expertise in treating febrile hepatitis (FH), leading to a risk of misdiagnosis or missed diagnosis for many patients when seeking medical attention after symptoms appear. Even when diagnosed with FH, some patients report that their doctors lack relevant experience and are unable to provide targeted treatment advice and medication plans. Therefore, FH patients generally face difficulties in accessing medical care, with questions such as "Which hospital should I go to?" and "Which doctors specialize in treating FH?" becoming a major concern for them.

To address this challenge, Hongmili has been committed to building a nationwide FH (French Hunger) treatment network, uniting FH specialists across the country to ensure patients receive professional diagnosis and treatment. In 2024, six senior experts joined the Hongmili FH treatment network, and we have compiled detailed information on each expert's areas of expertise and appointment details. In the future, we will continue to expand the FH treatment network, broaden its coverage, and invite more professional doctors to join, allowing FH patients to receive professional treatment conveniently nearby.
